The Académie des sciences has announced the election of 18 new members who will officially take up their positions in 2026. These elections recognize scientists whose work has made sustained contributions across a broad range of disciplines.

Nouveaux membres élus à l’Académie des sciences

Among those elected is Éric Gilson, Professor and Team Leader at IRCAN – Institut de Recherche sur le Cancer et le Vieillissement, Université Côte d’Azur, INSERM and CNRS. His election acknowledges long-standing research on genome stability, telomere biology, and cellular senescence—processes that are central to aging and cancer biology.

The French Academy of Sciences brings together researchers who contribute not only to scientific advancement but also to reflection on the role of science in society. Newly elected members participate in the Academy’s missions of supporting research, sharing knowledge, and providing scientific insight to public debate.

A formal ceremony welcoming the new members will take place under the Coupole of the Institut de France in June 2026.

IRCAN extends its congratulations to Éric Gilson on this distinction, which also reflects the collective efforts of the teams and collaborations that support aging research at the institute.
